This document outlines identity verification obligations for Canadian players registered with Scanterbury.

Scanterbury Identity Verification Policy

1. Purpose and Scope

This policy sets out the identity verification requirements that apply to all players registered with Scanterbury who access the platform from Canada. Identity verification is a mandatory compliance obligation required under applicable Canadian anti-money-laundering legislation, including obligations arising from the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act, and under standards established by relevant provincial gaming regulators.

Identity information is collected, validated, and retained to confirm that each account holder is who they claim to be, meets the minimum age requirement, is located in an eligible jurisdiction, and is not subject to any restriction that would prevent account access.

This policy applies at registration, at withdrawal, and at any stage where the platform’s compliance procedures require additional confirmation of a player’s identity or source of funds.

2. When Verification Is Required

Verification may be initiated at any of the following points:

  • During account registration, before a player is permitted to access account functions or participate in any activity.
  • Before a withdrawal request is processed, where the account has not previously been fully verified.
  • When a transaction or pattern of activity triggers a review under the platform’s internal monitoring procedures.
  • When automated checks are unable to confirm a player’s identity against available data sources.
  • When a player’s account information is updated and the change cannot be confirmed through existing records.
  • When enhanced due diligence is required based on the player’s risk profile, transaction history, or other compliance factors.

The company reserves the right to suspend account activity, including withdrawals, until verification is complete. This is a procedural requirement that applies uniformly across all accounts subject to a verification request.

3. Information and Documents Required

3.1 Standard Registration Information

At the time of registration, at minimum the following information is collected from each player:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Residential address
  • Contact information, including a valid email address
  • Login identification method

This information must be accurate and complete. Providing false or incomplete information at registration constitutes a breach of the account terms and may result in account suspension or closure.

3.2 Identity Verification Documents

Where automated verification against credit bureau or public data sources is not possible or sufficient, one or more of the following documents will be requested:

Document Type - Accepted Examples
Government-issued photo identification - Passport, provincial driver’s licence, provincial photo card
Proof of address - Utility bill, bank statement, government correspondence (issued within 90 days)
Additional identity confirmation - Secondary government-issued document, as specified in the verification request

Documents must be valid and not expired at the time of submission. Documents that are damaged, partially obscured, or otherwise unreadable are not accepted. Scanned copies or photographs of original documents are accepted provided they are clear, complete, and unaltered.

3.3 Enhanced Due Diligence

In certain circumstances, additional information beyond standard identity documents may be requested. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Confirmation of source of funds
  • Proof of payment method ownership
  • Information relevant to politically exposed person screening or sanctions compliance

Players will be notified of any such requirement through their registered contact details.

4. Verification Methods

The platform uses a combination of automated and manual verification procedures. Automated checks may involve matching the player’s submitted information against Canadian credit bureau records using name, date of birth, and address as reference points. Where two qualifying credit file sources confirm the player’s identity, document submission may not be required.

Where automated checks are insufficient, document-based verification is conducted. This involves review of the submitted documents against the information held on the player’s account. Third-party identity verification providers may be used to assist with document review, biometric checks, or liveness detection where applicable.

Players with limited Canadian credit history, including those who are new to Canada or who have a thin credit file, may be required to proceed directly to document-based verification.

5. Timelines and Processing

The company aims to complete standard identity verification within a reasonable period following receipt of all required documents. Processing times may vary depending on:

  • The volume of requests
  • The completeness and quality of submitted documents
  • Whether additional review or enhanced due diligence is required

Players are responsible for submitting documents promptly when requested. Delays caused by incomplete submissions, unreadable documents, or failure to respond to a verification request are the responsibility of the account holder. The company will not be liable for delays to withdrawals or account access that result from a player’s failure to complete verification in a timely manner.

6. Data Retention and Privacy

Identity verification records are retained in accordance with applicable Canadian legal requirements. Retained records may include:

  • Player name
  • Verification method used
  • Document type and number
  • Issuing jurisdiction
  • Document expiry date
  • Date on which verification was completed

Verification data is stored securely and is not shared with third parties except where required by law, by a regulatory authority, or where the player has provided explicit consent. Players may request information about how their data is held and processed by contacting Scanterbury through the support channels listed in the Contact section of this site.

7. Player Obligations

Each player is responsible for:

  • Providing accurate and complete information at registration and throughout the life of the account.
  • Notifying the platform promptly if any registered information changes, including name, address, or contact details.
  • Responding to verification requests within the timeframe specified in the request.
  • Submitting documents that are genuine, unaltered, and belong to the account holder.
  • Not sharing account credentials or verification documents with any third party.

As part of any verification process, the company will not request a player’s password, one-time authentication codes, remote access to a device, or unrestricted access to banking credentials. Any communication making such a request should be treated as suspicious and reported to the support team immediately.

8. Consequences of Non-Compliance

Failure to complete identity verification when requested may result in one or more of the following actions:

  • Suspension of withdrawal functionality until verification is complete.
  • Temporary restriction of account access pending review.
  • Permanent closure of the account where verification cannot be completed or where submitted information is found to be false or misleading.

Where an account is closed due to a failure to verify, any funds held in the account will be handled in accordance with the account closure procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.

9. Regulatory Framework

Identity verification obligations are informed by Canadian federal anti-money-laundering legislation administered by the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), as well as by the standards of the applicable provincial gaming regulator.

In Ontario, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) sets out requirements for player account management and identity validation under its iGaming standards. These standards require that player information be complete, accurate, and validated before an account is created, and that players be authenticated before accessing their account.

The procedures described in this policy are designed to meet these obligations. Players may review the publicly available guidance issued by AGCO and FINTRAC for further information on the regulatory context in which these requirements apply.

10. Contact

Questions about this policy or about a verification request can be directed to Scanterbury’s support team through the Contact page on this site.

Original identity documents should not be sent by post unless specifically instructed to do so by a member of the support team.
